If you are looking for an exciting way to ring in the new year this New Year’s Eve, but tackling the crowds in time square sounds like more of a challenge than you’re up to there are plenty of local activities planned this year in central New Jersey. Here are just a few.
Wonder Walk: The Magic of New Year’s Eve in the Woods
10 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 31. Walk with us on New Year’s Eve day through a section of the woods at Duke Farms as we explore the wonders of nature in winter. We’ll look for animal tracks, listen for the sounds of birds and search for other evidence of the wildlife and native plants that surround us. Led by naturalists from the N.J. Audubon Society, this program is designed for children ages 3 to 8.

Salute to Vienna World’s Greatest New Year’s Concert!
6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31. This year’s performance is conducted by the engaging Maestro András Deák with a program of Viennese waltzes (such as the Blue Danube Waltz), polkas and Operetta excerpts from The Merry Widow and Die Fledermaus with the musical classics of Johann Strauss Jr. The performance will feature dancers from the Vienna City Ballet performing the Viennese Waltz live on stage. $45-$125.
