Take Your Mind Off Tough Times by Doing for Others

The state of the economy is causing many of us to tighten our belts and this belt tightening is being felt by local nonprofit organizations. Charitable contributions from individuals have gone down significantly as essentials like gas and groceries eat up household budgets. Corporate sponsorships are also decreasing as businesses are feeling the pain of the economic crisis.

As a result of dwindling donations and volunteers many nonprofits are scaling back the services they provide the community. Unfortunately these cut backs are being made at the time they are needed most. For example food banks who are receiving less donations will not be able to provide those in need with meals this holiday season.

One thing to keep in mind with lamenting the budget cutbacks you may have to make this year is that there are others that are worse off. A great way to appreciate what you have is to help others. So please try to be as generous as possible with your charitable contributions as we approach the holiday season.
