Present day Somerville has lots to offer both residents and visitors from eclectic dining choices to quaint shopping and quiet tree lined residential streets scattered with architectural interest. Now a new book offers some insight into Somervilles’ historic past. 

"Remembering Somerville, New Jersey" is a collection of Somerville-oriented columns written by Jessie Havens for the Messenger Gazette weekly newspaper. Havens, a Montgomery resident, wrote about Somerville, Somerset County and New Jersey history for a 25-year period for the newspaper.

The book — edited by Linda Barth — is available for $19.99 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the first-floor service window at Borough Hall.

Philip Decker, chairman of the borough Historical Advisory Committee, also said those interested can reserve a copy by e-mailing the committee at historicadvisory@somervillenj.org or via regular mail. The committee asks that those interested include their name, address and telephone number.
