Technology Trends in Real Estate

John Bendall owner of Re/Max Classic Group shares some Online Consumer Trends

While most of us at Re/Max Classic Group have resisted the urge to run out and buy a new iPhone, all of us are completely reliant on our cell phones, smart phones, or PDA’s. This keeps us completely connected to the office and our clients. Some of us may need to work on occasionally disconnecting and spending some quality time with friends and family, but today I’m going to focus on the positive aspects of staying connected via cell phone.

A new application available from Realtor.com will allow you or your clients to search for Real Estate listings on your cell phone or PDA. You need a Windows Mobile enabled cell phone to download the application which will allow you to search for homes using the same criteria that you would use from the computer.

“We developed Realtor.com Mobile because more people are using hand held devices to access information on the road,” said Realtor.com Senior Vice President, Product Development, Joe DeTuno.  “Through this new mobile technology, consumers now have current listings with property details at their finger tips whenever they want it.”

This feature can change the way tech savvy consumers search for a home. It can eliminate a lot of the time spent driving around in the car looking at homes. It can also allow buyers to focus on particular areas by allowing them to look for “Homes Near By” when they find a neighborhood they are interested in. A couple quick clicks allow buyers to see other homes available in the area and provides them with maps and driving directions.

One downside of this feature to Buyers Agents is that it allows the buyer to contact the listing agent instantly from their phone. We need to concentrate on building report with our clients so that we have the strong relationships in place, so that when they see something they are interested in they contact us first. This reminds us that no matter how high tech the home search process becomes the most important thing is the high touch personal relationships we develop with our clients.
