One of the nice things about our area is the close proximity to lots of entertainment. Check out the following list courtesy of The Courier News website c-n.com to make your plans. Now that the heat has broken and the forecast for the weekend is beautiful you can plan to take part in activities either indoors or out. 

Concert in the park 

- Melissa Martin and the Mighty Rhythm Kings will sing the blues 7-9 tonight at Deer Path Park, West Woodschurch Road, Readington. Admission is free. Bring lawn chairs and a picnic basket. The concert is part of Hunterdon County Park System’s Music Under the Stars concert series. Call (908) 782-7275.

Parrot Beach
-The Somerset County Park Commission Free Summer Concert Series continues with Parrot Beach 7 p.m. Sunday at Duke Island Park, www.somersetcountyparks.org.

Black Potatoe Music Fest
-Get the weekend started with the 11th annual Black Potatoe Music Festival 6 tonight at the Red Mill Museum Village, www.blackpotatoe.com.

Creativity Expo 2007
-Acquired and traumatic brain injury survivors will display works of art Saturday through July 25 during the "Creativity Expo 2007" at Raritan Valley Community College Student Art Gallery, Route 28 and Lamington Road, North Branch section of Brachburg. A reception will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday. Refreshments will be served. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and weekends and noon to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. Call (609) 397-1048.

Opening in Central Jersey theaters this week
-"Captivity," thriller about a couple terrorized by a serial killer (R) opens Friday. This film was not reviewed.

- On Wednesday, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" opened. This film, starring Daniel Radcliffe (above), is darker than the other films in the series.

More Shakespeare
- For more works by Shakespeare, see Trilogy Repertory Company’s production of "The Taming of the Shrew" 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and July 19-21 in the amphitheater at Pleasant Valley Park, Valley Road, in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards. Bastille Day
- Frenchtown will roll out the red carpet for the ninth annual Bastille Day Fete 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on the streets of Frenchtown. ‘Measure for Measure’
- Previews for "Measure for Measure," Shakespeare’s compelling tale of corruption and morality, continue 8 tonight and Friday at F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, 36 Madison Ave., Madison. Opening night is 7 p.m. Saturday. Performances continue 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays through July 29. Preview tickets are $28-$32; $37-$52 for regular tickets. ‘Carousel’
- See Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical "Carousel" 7 p.m. Friday in the Victoria Theater at New Jersey Performing Arts Center, 1 Center St. in Newark. The show is presented by NJPAC’s Summer Musical Program and New Jersey Youth Theatre Company, formerly Westfield Young Artist Cooperative Theatre. Performances continue through July 22.
