Dear NJAR Member,
After many hours of debate no compromise on the state’s FY 2007 budget has been accepted by either house of the Legislature. Last night the Assembly Budget Committee met for the first time publicly since the government shutdown and adjourned at 10:30 p.m. For the third time this week Governor Corzine addressed a joint session of the Legislature at 9:00 a.m. urging legislators to pass a budget TODAY.
An expansion of the sales tax to seasonal rental units and certain professional services is still being considered by the Assembly. This would be in lieu of the Governor’s proposal to increase the sales tax by a penny from 6 to 7 cents. Let me assure you NJAR is doing the best we can to protect the real estate industry and our members from the impact of new taxes.
I appreciate your actions so far. The phone calls you make and the e-mails you send are bolstering the work I am doing at the statehouse. Here’s what you can do now:
- Continue to call Governor Corzine’s office at 609-292-6000. Encourage the Governor to veto any budget presented to him that negatively impacts the real estate industry.
NJAR will continue to keep you updated on the progress of the budget.
Thank you,
Jarrod C. Grasso, RCE
Vice President of Government Affairs
